I discovered a new way to make tomato soup

I made my dinner with a can of tomato soup, mixed into a can of diced tomatoes.  This gives your tomato soup extra texture you can’t get from tomato soup and a can of water.

What is posted on King Manor’s fourth floor bulletin board for August 29, 2023?

I wonder if these paper and pin bulletin boards will ever be replaced by modern, digital signage displays.

I bought BeeMosa by Superstition Meadery

Mead is the most favored drink by Renaissance fairgoers and those who play Dungeons and Dragons.

I also bought these cans to get a fine-artsy, environmental product shot.  I also got that shot just in case I ever get the chance to interview for a job at an advertising agency.

St. Mary’s Medical Center, conclusion of my visual essay

This is a toilet with a stainless steel bowl.  The room also doubles as a shower.  That is an efficient way to make the same space have two functions.

St. Mary’s Medical Center frit pattern glass

In essence, fritted glass is any glass printed with ink that contains ultra-small particles of ground-up glass – a.k.a. “frit”.

I found an interesting Cardboard message

I found an interesting message left on a sheet of cardboard.  I found this message on the north side of the street corner of East Superior Street and North Second Avenue East.  I keep on finding unusual things, while I’m not even trying that hard to find these unusual things.

Even more words of encouragement

Once again, I found these words of encouragement on the east sidewalk of North Second Avenue East.

I saw "Renegade Friday Nights: Murderhobos"

I found this improvisational comedy of players messing up their D&D campaign funny.  While playing Dungeons and Dragons, I’ve seen college students and young adult players mess up playing their characters far worse, than the comedians on the stage did.  I should ask my future players in my future One D&D campaign to see this comedy; so they can see how NOT to play their characters.

St. Mary’s Medical Center rectangular patterns on their windows

These patterns help birds see and then avoid St. Mary’s Medical Center’s wall of panes of glass.

St. Mary’s Medical Center has Kidzpace ™ Interactive games

Twenty-first century children are growing up with many more entertainment options than my generation ever had.  For example, these children are growing up in a world, where from their point of view computer games have always existed.

St. Mary’s Medical Center view of Duluth’s Central Hillside

Duluth sure is a city of trees.

St. Mary’s Medical Center Baby Friendly ® Birthplace

Another shot of this new, private birthing suite.

St. Mary’s Medical Center bathroom

I count four bathroom safety railings for this one bathtub.  My apartment shower has two safety railings.

St. Mary’s Medical Center bathroom

Again, I am impressed by the way this bathroom is designed.

St. Mary’s Medical Center biohazard sign

I might use this sign, if I ever restart my online comic.

St. Mary’s Medical Center Baby Friendly ® Birthplace

I was impressed by this private birthing suite.

I was also impressed by how the windows made the outdoor views appear as watercolor paintings.

St. Mary’s Medical Center barrier-free shower

If I ever build a home of my own, I’ll get one or two curbless showers like this.  I’ll buy and then install one walk-in shower for myself and another for the guest bathroom.

I saw the movie, “Blue Beetle”

I knew next to nothing about the Blue Beetle character.  Therefore, almost everything in this movie was a fresh experience for me.

This is the St. Mary’s Medical Center baptismal font

This baptismal font looks very modern, while reflecting well the stained glass window.

This is the St. Mary’s Medical Center Community Open House welcome sign

As a communications major, I have an intellectual curiosity in promotional communications.

Monday, August 21, 2023

On Friday, July 21, 2023 I attended the St. Mary’s Medical Center Community Open House.

The Essentia Health – St. Mary’s Medical Center tower is located at 402 East Second Street.  Everything I saw about this new health center impressed me.  My mind is now resting easy that if I ever have a medical emergency that the most up-to-date health care is one city block away from my apartment.

Sunday, August 20, 2023

This Sunday, I saw the movie, Despicable Me.

I’ve noticed that far fewer people watch these movies on Sunday; when the city bus services stop operating before these movies even start at eight PM.

I found this sticker outside the Blacklist Brewing Company.

“Make Your Move” is good advice to those held back by painful indecision.

Chewbacca in Duluth

I found Star Wars Chewbacca on the east side of the North Pointe Resource Center / Rainbow Center.  This guy lost his bowcaster and lower arms; yet he is still an imposing fighter.

American graffiti, part 2

This stone wall has one more someone loves someone graffiti that’s worth blogging about.

Art of the Philippines

I found this art discarded on a table on the fifth floor.  I have no idea how a Philippines knickknack got to the fifth floor of King Manor.

American graffiti (that title is shameless clickbait)

I found this American graffiti on the north side of the intersection of East Fourth Street and North Third Avenue East.

My fellow game masters,

I’ll give you advice that has helped me write more entertaining Dungeons & Dragons adventures.  When my player characters make significant decisions, those decisions create both lasting foreseen and unforeseen consequences.  In turn, those player character created consequences create fun dramas.

For example, in David Gerrold’s book, “The World of Star Trek”, pages 234 to 235, he wrote:

“If it were a real drama, it could be described in one sentence.  The sentence begins with:  “Kirk has to decide between … “

And ends with:

“… saving the woman he loves or allowing the past to be changed.”

“… risking his ship or saving Spock’s life.”

“… being a diplomat or being a soldier.”

“These three sentences were the basis of three good STAR TREK stories.”

These decisions must be mutually exclusive and for the most part irreversible, unless powerful magic is used, such as a wish.  In a nutshell, these decisions must be more serious than what is behind door number one, door number two, or door number three.  I give bonus points to you, if you know what TV show I just made a reference to.

Making extra money for Dungeons & Dragons parties

Our player character group can earn money by going beyond ways described in the module.  Our player characters can be high fantasy adventuring against evil, non-player characters and monsters one day, while working to gain money from more mundane activities the next day.  For example, they could earn extra money by harvesting wild fruit, while hunting deer and game birds such as wild turkeys.

What about hunting for fur-bearing animals?  How many fur hats can be made from the pelt of a giant beaver? The player characters could establish a fur trading company, over time becoming wealthy like John Jacob Astor’s family became wealthy in the real world.

They could fish for game fish like Trout in the nearby river.  Are the trees around the caves useable for lumber?  The trees could be hauled to the river, chained into large rafts, and then floated down the river to markets.

Is the rock, which the caves are within, useable for building structures?  Turn the caves into a surface rock quarry and in a few years the caves will be eaten up by the quarry.  To become wealthy selling stone, while forever destroying the caves is something that my player characters can dig.

I bought Cap'n Crunch Red White & Blue Cereal!

My Cap'n Crunch Red White & Blue Cereal tastes very good!  I recommend it very much for those who love this type of yummy cereal.

Sometimes, in my sleep I dream of attending AniMinneapolis

As a lifelong fan of Japanese animation, I loved attending AniMinneapolis 2017.  However, I have no idea when or even if I’ll ever be able to attend another AniMinneapolis or another fan convention.

I’m thinking I should get an English teacher certificate

While an English teacher certificate would build upon my Communication major and Journalism minor; the question that I need to know is this:  Will I make a more than twenty year career of teaching like my mother?  Or, will I rage quit after a few years like my father?

On a North Fourth Avenue East storefront, I found this unusual penny with a cross cut into it.

I have no idea how this tiny cross was cut into this penny.

You will never know what you will find, until you start looking into the unknown.

City Stories: The Furrier’s Guild

There are many useful story ideas in this one page, Living City article; including a way to turn a benevolent magical item into a malevolent magical item.

Lost Cat 2023

I hope that Eurydice and Percy are reunited soon.

2023 Movies in the Park series

I hope that next year that Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves will be one of the 2024 Movies in the Park.

Abandoned bicycle frame

I found this abandoned bicycle frame in the bushes and trees south of East Superior Street and the North Fourth Avenue East intersection.

Reflected sunlight

I found these stylish pools of reflected sunlight on Superior Street, next to the Holiday Center.

I found a Super One truck blocking the sidewalk on my way to buy food.

As well as one-quarter of the northbound lane of South Twelfth Avenue East.

My “He / Him” button that I got from a diversity acceptance event at UMD.

I’ve never worn this “He / Him” button.  However, I’ll keep this button in case I ever need it.

My Duluth once has a F. W. Woolworth store

I think my parents shopped for goods at this store.  Yet, I have no memories of visiting this store.  I do remember walking by this store with my parents.

That’s an imaginative way to make an ice cream cone into street art.

I found the bottom of a discarded ice cream cone on a Superior Street stoplight structure.  Yet, that’s still illegal littering that will attract mice and rats.

Bus Stop Seagull

I had no idea that seagulls inhabited bus shelters.

Tuesday, August 1, 2023

I attended the Sixth Avenue East Redesign Project.

This is my first time visiting the Family Freedom Farm.  The Triple F is located on 500 East Tenth Street, at the corner of Sixth Avenue East and Tenth Street.

What is posted on King Manor’s fourth floor bulletin board for August 1, 2023?

We can see that the old posts have made way for the new posts.
