This is the second day that the Rainbow Center has been closed.
There are many planned events at the Rainbow Center that
have been canceled because of the continuing cold wave of
- 4 air temperature and - 3 wind chill.

A big, flatbed truck on Second Street
With such cold
weather, I’m sure that there are many stalled vehicles that need to be brought
to local auto shops.
A cold wave of - 6 air temperature and - 25 wind chill closed the Rainbow Center.
It is better to close the Rainbow Center and keep senior
citizens and center employees safe at their homes and apartments, rather than
to risk their health going out in such cold weather.

The Lakewalk smashed by the storm
This part of the Lakewalk was hit hard, washing away
the wooden deck, which I expected from a powerful storm. But the concrete foundation strengthened with
reinforcing bar for the deck was also washed away, which I didn’t expect.
A different view of the same ruined foundation. I am amazed at how much force it took to bend
the reinforcing bar like that.
Image was taken looking towards the Aerial Lift Bridge,
with another Road Closed sign in the
foreground.

More documented damage the storm did to Duluth’s Lakewalk
This is what was a wooden platform and concrete footing
for an interpretive sign.
This is a closer look at the power of moving water. Please notice the striped patterns created on
the deck support beams, made by sunlight shining through the deck boards.
The sturdy metal sign, constructed to resist mindless vandalism
and metal theft as it was in the winter of 2014. You never know when a photo you took years
ago will become useful to you.

Duluth Lakewalk in Canal Park: Storm damage
A strong October 2017 storm ripped up the boardwalk and
covered the bicycle trail with sand and rocks.
I suppose the city doesn’t have “sidewalk closed” signs
available.
This sign is nowhere near an actual road.

Twin Cities tour bus at Bentleyville
Imagine paying to sit for a six hour round trip from
the Twin Cities to Duluth and back again, to tour America's largest free walk
through lighting display.

More good memories from the Bentleyville “Tour of Lights”
The streak
of light is the Pier B Resort’s Christmas wagon towed by a tractor.
The Biggest
Christmas tree I have ever seen with my own eyes!
Nice reflections
on a Bentleyville micro-truck back window.

Nighttime at Bentleyville
Now that is one impressive sign!
These are three green and two blue trees for you.
Someone decorated a small tree, showing that something small
puts a smile on my face.

My proposed Lake Superior and Mississippi Railroad bypass of Mud Lake
Here is my proposed
bypass that would save the Munger Landing to Steelton route for future
generations, while bypassing any of the toxic cleanups in and around Mud
Lake. In the future, this route could
add variety for Lake Superior & Mississippi riders, as their train could
use the lakeside, Mud Lake route southbound, and then take the inland, Steelton
route northbound.

The King Manor Residents’ Club has started putting up our posters.
Linda Erdahl had her support staff at her office make really nice color,
11 x 17" laminated posters - 4 copies. The dates can be written on it each
month with a dry erase marker. She gave my club a marker for adding new dates
each month.
I ran out of black ink in my printer.
So, I had handwritten this poster for the King Manor Buy a Basket Co-Op.
