You might be wondering what has happened to Larry’s Café.

After closing, Larry’s Café has become a storage room for Housing and Redevelopment Authority maintenance workers.

Time might be running out to take pictures of the Kozy Bar and Apartments.

This photo was taken on First Street looking east.  My friends tell me that this historical building may soon be destroyed and the space paved over to become yet another parking lot.  That will be a sad day for Duluth if that happens.

This photo was taken on First Street looking west.  Opened in 1887, the Kozy Apartments were then named the Pastoret Terrace, designed by architect Oliver Traphagen.  The Pastoret Terrace consisted of six very luxurious townhouses.  I hope that this beautiful building can be saved, to be returned to the original townhouses this building was intended to be.

A sinking utility access hole makes a five inch drop in a Duluth street.

This disgraceful and hazardous hole is located on North 2nd Avenue East, between East First Street and East Second Street.  As you can see the end of the double yellow line and the end of the brick pavement, indicates that this hole is parallel to the alley that is between East First Street and East Second Street.  For the safety of drivers and pedestrians, someone should repair this hole before it gets any worse.

I got this notice about the King Manor bicycle rack on my front door.

It seems that the bicycle rank is full of abandoned bicycles; there is no room for those who wish to use it as a place to put their bicycles.

There are many bicycles on the rack, some of which are in deteriorating to the point of being inoperable as bicycles.

I don’t know why anyone would buy a bicycle and then leave it outside to be covered by the snow and ice, to be unridden by anyone.

Someone was confused about the meaning of the word “there” and the word “their” in a sentence.

This poster is in the Rainbow Center.  I don’t know who corrected the misprint, as it was not me.

This other poster is in King Manor.  I didn’t make these posters.  I’m only pointing out the typo in the sentence.  The one who created this poster should have learned the difference between “there” and “their” while attending elementary school.

Another photo of my handcrafted taiyaki!

I used Hershey’s ® Cinnamon Chips to highlight the eyes in these yummy taiyaki!  I don’t believe that I’ve seen taiyaki chiefs emphasize the eyes of their taiyaki this way.  So, I may be the first one to do this pastry technique to taiyaki.

I baked another batch of my cinnamon within cinnamon taiyaki.

I have been product testing my stovetop baked taiyaki, which are Japanese fish-shaped cakes.  My taste testers favorite taiyaki so far is Krusteaz ® Cinnamon Swirl crumb cake and muffin mix for batter, with Hershey’s ® Cinnamon Chips for their filling.

While I would love to start a taiyaki stand; I’m am now in the same situation as the Little Red Hen, as my friends love eating taiyaki, but none want to join me in setting up a taiyaki stand.

Today, I took a bus trip to a picnic at Jay Cooke State Park, Part 6

On the way back to the Rainbow Senior Center, I took this photo looking east to Downtown Duluth on the Mesaba Avenue Bridge over West Superior Street.  In the center is Duluth’s Gateway Plaza, described in city documents as a “landscaped plaza with a concrete sculptural element shaped in the form of a sail”.  West Michigan Street is to the right of the plaza, while West Superior Street reconstruction is to the left of the plaza.

A photo of the same street reconstruction, a few meters north of the first location.  It looks like it will take the construction crews a few more days to complete the reconstruction of West Superior Street.

This is the food that I ate during the picnic.  I think some of my readers may have noticed that my blog has many photos of plates full of food.

These are my fellow travelers who loved the food, fun, and the companionship at the picnic.

A “Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment” sign on the north side of the swinging bridge.  We must vote this November to make sure that Jay Cooke State Park and other public parks remain intact and open for us to enjoy, and for the recreation of future generations.

Note:  I would have place the screw between the letter “g” and the letter “a” in the word legacy, instead over the letter “d” in amendment.

I found a nifty rock on the south side of the swinging bridge.

Yesterday, I attended the Mid-Autumn Festival of 2018 at UMD - Duluth, Part 5

These are the nice people who put their time, effort, and money into putting on this wonderful Mid-Autumn Festival.

After the closing ceremonies, the happy participants gather their things to go back home.  People were packing up the leftover food and chatting with their friends.

The stage show is about to start.

Being so far away of the stage, I didn’t get many good photos of the entertainment.

This is the mooncake I had for dessert.  I was slightly disappointed that my mooncake didn’t have the image of Princess Luna on it.

This is the entertainment schedule for the Mid-Autumn Festival.

This is event art projected on one of two screens on either side of the stage.

Let’s sit down, so we can eat some great food.

This is my ticket for the Mid-Autumn Festival that I bought on Friday.

The ticket is for table one, seat six.  I wanted a good position to take photos of the stage acts.

This is the things I found on table one.  If you where on the stage, this table would be to your right.

I made these yummy taiyaki

My taste testers love this new recipe, cinnamon taiyaki cakes.

These taiyaki taste better than they appear.

Today, I’ll make my second batch of Taiyaki!

I’m using Krusteaz ® Cinnamon Swirl crumb cake and muffin mix for batter.

I’m also using Hershey’s ® Cinnamon Chips for their filling.

A foggy day in Duluth, Minnesota

There are few days when I can’t see either Lake Superior or the Duluth Harbor from my apartment.

Thursday, September 13, 2018

I made my first Taiyaki of the fall 2018 and spring 2019 semesters at UMD.

While I have not made any of these cakes for a few months, these cakes both look and taste great!

I hope I can persuade other people to assist me in making a Taiyaki store.

My last two Taiyaki turned out to be some of the best appearing I’ve ever made.

I bought a cake at Mount Royal Market

I bought this cake Monday and then gave it to the Rainbow Senior Center.

This is what that Mount Royal Market cake looks like out of the plastic box.

A three dollar cake that was priced at twenty-one dollars is one-seventh of the original price.
