It is fun to observe these posted messages on King
Manor’s fourth floor bulletin board slowly change from month to month, and from
year to year.

My free tour of the Great Lakes Aquarium
I got a free ticket to the Great Lakes Aquarium with my
free DECC Thanksgiving meal. I created a
funny message with the shipwreck poetry word building blocks.
Thanksgiving at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC)
This is my first DECC meal and I loved every bite of
it!
This is my second DECC meal, that was well worth the
effort to travel to the DECC a second time to eat my Thanksgiving feast!
Thanksgiving snowstorm in Duluth, Minnesota
This is a view on the north side of Superior Street,
between North First Avenue East in the background and North Second Avenue East
behind this image.

Minnesota Coaches in Duluth, Minnesota
I saw this coach let off what I think is a boys’ hockey
team in front of the Sheraton Duluth Hotel.
It then parked on First Street, between North Third Avenue East and
North Fourth Avenue East.
Vision Northland construction continues for November 23, 2019, Part Two
I found much graffiti painted on this concrete pad-mounted,
electrical transformer box that’s located north of Superior Street and south of
the Essentia Health-Duluth Clinic First Street Building.
I wonder why this backhoe engine was idling, while
these lights were turned on during the daytime.
I’m standing on the south side of Superior Street, while
looking up at North Fourth Avenue East.
Vision Northland will bring big changes to this area in the next three
years.
Vision Northland construction continues for November 23, 2019, Part One
I found that these orange sidewalk marks continue on
the south side of East Second Street and east of North Sixth Avenue East.
I was standing on the south sidewalk on First Street,
looking up towards Second Street. North
Fourth Avenue East is to the left of the image.
This area will change for the better when Vision Northland is completed
in the fall of 2022.
While North Fourth Avenue East is in the shadow of the
parking ramp that I’m standing on, the building on the opposite side of the
street is in full sun. This made for
some awkward attempts to lighten up the shadows, while darkening the parts in
full sun.
Today, we celebrate Wendy and Bard’s birthdays.
People at the party liked the tree that I asked for
that is on that birthday cake!
Cake is in the cake box
Cake is out of the cake box
Everyone at the party said that they loved the cake
that I bought to them from the Plaza Super One on Superior Street.

The James R. Barker arrives in the Twin Ports.
From my apartment window, I saw
this ship travelling within the Duluth Ship Canal. I wanted to get an image of that neat plume
of engine smoke being created by the James R. Barker’s
engines.

Taiyaki by James
After being sidelined from my cooking for a few hours
by a headache, I resumed cooking my cakes.
Also, if I ever open a stand for my cakes, “Taiyaki by James” could be a
workable name for my small business.
Here is a close-up of the scrumptious cakes that I
cooked.
Today, I will cook Taiyaki, a Japanese fish-shaped cake.
I’m using Betty Crocker French Vanilla cake mix, with
Core Power High Protein Vanilla Milk Shake instead of water. My original recipe makes a far richer and
tastier cake.
PS: The filling for
these tasty treats is Nestle Toll House Premier White Morsels.

King Manor kitchen renovations for November 16, 2019.
Residents that I have talked with tell me that they are
pleased that King Manor’s maintenance staff completed more renovations in our community
kitchen.
Discord and Fluttershy cast shadows on my kitchen wall.
I noticed these attractive shadows on my kitchen wall this
morning and then decided to make a nice picture of it. If you pay attention to your common, everyday
surroundings, you can find pictures in unexpected places. You don’t need to trek to a national park to
get interesting pictures, as you can find interesting pictures in your home.

Phase Two of the Superior Street reconstruction had a modest celebration to celebrate the street reopening to traffic, Part Three
To my mind, these few bricks embedded into the concrete
sidewalk are a rather striking, yet temporary addition, to the Superior Street north
sidewalk. My photo is looking southwest,
on the corner of East Superior Street and North Lake Avenue.
Phase Two of the Superior Street reconstruction had a modest celebration to celebrate the street reopening to traffic, Part Two
I took this photo looking northeast of the closed
Superior Street before being reopened to traffic.
Mayor of Duluth Emily Larson is wrapping up the Superior
Street reopening celebration. I really love
how that round bicycle rack in the street’s north sidewalk gives a halo to the
news photographer.
That very clean dump truck is being driven away from
the celebration crowd to symbolically conclude the end of the celebration and
Phase Two reconstruction.
Phase Two of the Superior Street reconstruction had a modest celebration to celebrate the street reopening to traffic, Part One
Starting at 10:00 AM, these construction workers posed
for celebratory photos. I notice that I had
wrote “constriction” for “construction” and almost posted my blog post before I
noticed that rather embarrassing error.
Mayor of Duluth Emily Larson speaks to the crowd,
before other speakers talk about this important street project.
I admire that sound technician working hard to get all
those speaker voices recorded for the local news broadcasts. Kneeling on that cold concrete must have been
unpleasant for that technician.
Historic Kozy Bar and Apartments being cleaned before demolition begins.
This ACCT Asbestos Control Consulting Team truck is
based in Cloquet, Minnesota. ACCT sure owns
a nifty looking service truck. This
truck has a wide variety of tools to cleanup a wide variety of cleanup sites.
A big dumpster located west of the ACCT truck and out
of frame of the first picture is filled with building debris from the Kozy Bar. I wonder why it took a cleanup team many years,
from the 2010 fire, to empty the Kozy Bar.
I wonder if these booze bottles were emptied before or after
the Kozy Bar fire.

Rainbow Community Center – November 2019
Here is the image of the Duluth, Minnesota Rainbow
Community Center community calendar for November 2019. I’m pleased that I’m documenting inconsequential
events and artifacts that otherwise will be lost to US history.
I attended the Festival of Sail Duluth 2019, Part Eight
A member of the S/V Denis Sullivan’s crew gave me this sticker
while I was touring their vessel. From a
Google search, I found that this ship is owned by Discovery World at Pier
Wisconsin. I will have to revisit this
ship as well as tour Discovery World, if I ever visit Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

I attended the Festival of Sail Duluth 2019, Part Seven
I’m sure that skateboards were not a part of the
inventory on the original Niagara. Historical
inaccuracies aside, I’m sure that the contemporary Niagara’s crew
love skateboarding in many different sea ports during their Great Lakes tours.
I love how this mast and rigging on the Niagara make a dark
silhouette against the overcast sky in Duluth, Minnesota. That concludes our tall ships tour and I
hoped you liked this.
I attended the Festival of Sail Duluth 2019, Part Six
As a history buff on all kinds of topics, I loved the signs
telling visitors about how the US Navy, sea battles, and naval bombardments of 1812
shaped history.
Children stand beside one of the cannon on the Niagara’s
deck.
I can’t imagine being part of the crew, loading and
firing these cannon on the exposed deck during a fierce sea battle.
I attended the Festival of Sail Duluth 2019, Part Four
I was deeply impressed at how filled this cabin is with
charts and modern navigation equipment.
With space at a premium, I was not surprised to see a folding
table on the Denis Sullivan.
I attended the Festival of Sail Duluth 2019, Part Three
A vice tool on the deck, with a tool chest means that repairs
are often done by the crew. I didn’t
expect a green plant to be behind the tool chest.
Everyone has their water bottle to keep hydrated on
those long voyages on the Great Lakes. A
motorcycle is in the background.
The lifeboat and runabout that can saves lives and
carry people to shore when needed.
I attended the Festival of Sail Duluth 2019, Part Two
Motorcycles are stored on the Sullivan’s deck. A woman on the crew told me that motorcycles
are great ways for her and her friend to get around in port cities.
I had to use the required, upward shot of the big ship’s
masts and rope rigging.
I found a useful map of the ship. Desktop publishing sure is a great way for
this crew to create and print quality publications without a hiring a team of publication
specialists.
