I hope that future
Bentleyville displays are of how people from different cultures celebrate
Christmas. For example, could we have
displays of Finnish Christmas traditions, such as ice lanterns, sheafs (1), and
Yule goats?
(1) In Finland,
the tradition of placing wheat sheafs outdoors for birds during the Christmas
season is a cherished practice. This custom, which dates back to the pagan era,
symbolizes giving food to the birds during the cold winter months. The sheafs
are placed in the landscape, reflecting the natural elements of the Finnish
winter, and serve as a reminder of the community's connection to nature and the
environment.
